The month of September went out with a BANG in regards to MMA. Out of the five major events this past weekend, we saw: A champion losing his title, an inaugural title being won dramatically and two fighters returning from long layoffs.

Titan Fighting Championship 30 kicked things off in a great way. The co-main event saw Bantamweight Walel Watson come from behind and submit Anthony Gutierrez via triangle choke. The sub came at 3:02 of round 1 after Watson survived a barrage of punches from Gutierrez. The main event saw Vinny Magalhaes claim the inaugural Light Heavyweight title from Jason Brilz after he secured an arm triangle at :36 of round 4.

Bellator 126 featured a fight in the season 10 Lightweight tournament final. Marcin Held won that title by grinding out a hard fought decision win over Patricky "Pitbull" Freire. The XFC returned with XFC International 6. The main event saw Deivison Ribeiro retain his Featherweight belt against Waylon Lowe by getting a TKO at :11 of round 4.

UFC 178 easily lived up to its hype. Featherweight Conor McGregor defeated Dustin Poirier at just 1:46 of round 1 by TKO. Lightweight veteran Donald Cerrone successfully came back from a slow start to beat former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez by unanimous decision. The main event saw Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson defend his belt yet again, this time against Chris Cariaso. Johnson won via kimura at 2:29 of round 2. Other winners included Dominick Cruz and Cat Zingano, both of which were returning from long layoffs.

With Chris Weidman hurt, the Johny Hendricks vs Robbie Lawler Welterweight title rematch will now headline UFC 181.

9/14/14

It takes a ton of events for me to say I wasn't able to watch them all. This past weekend I unfortunately fell into that category. Six major events (seven if you include BAMMA) took place in the span of two days. Lucky for you, I'm going to recap them!

Kicking things off was ONE FC 20. Brazilian Adriano Moraes became the first Flyweight champion in the promotions history after he dispatched of Geje Eustaquio by guillotine at 4:43 of round 2.

Bellator 124 gave us two of the best finishes this year. First there was Liam McGeary who pulled off an inverted triangle from side control on Kelly Anundson at 4:40 of round 1 to become the winner of the Light Heavyweight tournament. And then in the main event there was Emanuel Newton who defended his Light Heavyweight belt for the first time against Joey Beltran. Newton landed his signature spinning back fist giving him the KO win at 3:07 of round 3. Newton and McGeary are expected to fight each other at a later event.

The vacant Bantamweight title was up for grabs at Cage Warriors 72. Cory Tait took home that title after defeating Toni Tauru by rear naked choke at 4:49 of round 4.

UFC Fight Night 51 saw Lightweight Gleison Tibau earn a unanimous decision win over Piotr Hallmann, a fight that earned "Fight of the Night" honors. The main event showcased what Heavyweight Andrei Arlovski is still capable of. Arlovski defeated Antonio Silva via KO at 2:59 of round 1.

At BAMMA 16 Lightweight Paul Daley defeated Marinho Moreira da Rocha by KO at 3:40 of round 2.

Finally, at WSOF 13 Lightweight Ozzy Dugulubgov returned to the win column by landing a vicious KO punch on Keon Caldwell at 1:38 of round 3. In the main event Bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes looked as impressive as ever versus Cody Bollinger. Moraes won by way of rear naked choke coming at 1:35 of round 2.

Eduardo Dantas and Joe Warren will unify their Bantamweight belts at Bellator 128.

Titan Fighting Championship has signed Dave Courchaine, Jacob Noe and Ken Hasegawa.

9/7/14

Uncasville Connecticut was the seen for the return of Bellator. Bellator 123 saw Light Heavyweight Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal return to the win column in impressive fashion with a TKO over Dustin Jacoby at 1:13 of round 2. The main event featured a rematch for the Featherweight belt. Patricio Freire came out on top this time with an easy five round unanimous decision win over Pat Curran.

At the very same moment in time in the exact same state, the Ultimate Fighting Championship held UFC Fight Night 50. Chances are if you blinked you missed Heavyweight Matt Mitrione's KO of Derrick Lewis. It only took Mitrione :41 to land a heavy right hand with follow up shots on the ground to end the fight. Another contest in the Heavyweight division pinned veterans Alistair Overeem and Ben Rothwell up against one another. In shocking fashion, Rothwell landed a overhand right which led to a round 1 TKO of Overeem at 2:19. In the main event Middleweight Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza avenged his defeat to Gegard Mousasi via guillotine at 4:30 of round 3. Souza is now 4-0 in the UFC.

If two great events weren't enough for you, you still were left with Invicta FC 8. The return of Invicta marked its first event on the UFC Fight Pass network. In the first of two title fights, Katja Kankaanpaa sunk in a late D'arce choke on Stephanie Eggink at 2:03 of round 5 to win the Women's Strawweight title. The main event saw Michelle "Karate Hottie" Waterson successfully defend her Women's Atomweight belt against Yasuko Tamada. Waterson won by TKO at 4:58 of round 3.

The final chapter in the Stevie Ray, Curt Warburton trilogy will take place at Cage Warriors 73 where the Lightweight belt will be up for grabs.

Cody Bollinger will replace Josh Hill to take on Marlon Moraes at WSOF 13. Though the fight will not be for Moraes's Bantamweight belt, he has told Bollinger if he can beat him he will hand over the belt unofficially.

The UFC has resigned Light Heavyweight Thiago Silva.
